Ruthin Castle Wedding Venue

Hey guys, I’m Markus, and it’s lovely to have you here. Please feel free to have a look through some of my galleries and, if you like what you see, perhaps take a look at my packages page too.

Without delay, let’s get stuck into some things about Ruthin Castle Hotel, and why I really like it as a wedding venue. I’ve had quite a bit of experience at Ruthin Castle and have luckily photographed weddings here many times, so I know the venue pretty well and have a good idea of where some of my favourite photographs can be created.

The Vibe at Ruthin Castle Hotel

Ruthin Castle is, of course, a genuine historic castle, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint when it comes to creating authentic opportunities for your wedding day and your photography.

For me, these two things go hand in hand. If you’re enjoying your day, feeling relaxed and simply being yourselves, your photographs naturally become more real. That’s exactly how I like to work.

Then you add a romantic, rustic and historic backdrop like Ruthin Castle, and everything starts to slot into place.

The castle has a wonderfully traditional feel, while the surrounding North Wales countryside gives you plenty of opportunities to step outside and enjoy some fresh air and quieter moments together.

Ruthin itself is a lovely small town, and the castle is surrounded by history and character. It’s also close to attractions such as Nantclwyd y Dre, making the wider area a great place for guests to explore during a wedding weekend.

Plenty of Space

Both the grounds and indoor spaces at Ruthin Castle provide an abundance of opportunities for photographs, relaxation and simply enjoying your wedding day.

Outside, I particularly like taking couples for a little mini-tour around the lovely rear gardens. There are views across Ruthin, the castle itself, trees, wildlife and plenty of little areas where we can stop for a few natural photographs.

And occasionally, the peacock decides to join us too!

The rear garden is usually my main area of interest before taking a gentle walk back around towards the front of the castle and entrance.

Inside, there are plenty of options too. Corridors, doorways, grand staircases, beautiful rooms and chandelier-filled ballrooms can all provide fantastic backdrops.

I especially like using some of these indoor spaces later in the day. As the light disappears, we can make use of flash photography to create some atmospheric evening portraits without taking you away from the celebrations for too long.

Weddings & Relaxation

One of the things I think makes Ruthin Castle particularly appealing for a wedding is that it can work really well as more than just a wedding venue.

For guests staying overnight, there are residential rooms, room service and opportunities to turn the occasion into more of a wedding break rather than simply arriving for the ceremony and leaving afterwards.

Depending on the package and facilities available at the time, guests can also enjoy spa facilities, relaxation spaces, a steam room, thermal cabins and woodland hot tubs.

There are also options such as afternoon tea and specific spa break packages, which can make the whole experience feel like a proper North Wales getaway.

For couples wanting a little more time together after the wedding, the combination of accommodation, spa facilities and the surrounding town makes Ruthin an interesting option.

It’s worth checking the current residential room rate and exactly what is included with any specific spa break package, as these can change depending on the season and offer.

The Prince of Wales & Historic Character

The history is one of the biggest attractions for me as a photographer.

Ruthin Castle has an unmistakable old-world character, and its connection with the history of Ruthin and the wider area gives the venue something that is difficult to recreate elsewhere.

The castle has links with the Prince of Wales, adding another fascinating layer to its history, while the surrounding architecture and grounds provide an incredibly atmospheric setting for photographs.

This is especially useful for couples who want their wedding photographs to feel timeless rather than overly staged.

All Weather

This leads nicely onto another reason I like photographing weddings at Ruthin Castle — it works whatever the weather decides to throw at us.

And in North Wales, we all know that the weather can occasionally have other plans!

If the weather is beautiful, we can make the most of the gardens, windows and doorways, using the natural light to create soft and traditional portraits.

If it’s cold, wet or particularly dark, there’s no need to panic.

The castle has large indoor spaces that allow us to continue photographing your day without having to drag everyone outside. We can use corridors, rooms, doorways and the downstairs areas for group photographs, candid moments and photographs of the evening entertainment.

I’m also a big fan of using flash photography later in the day. It gives us a completely different look and can create some really atmospheric wedding photographs.

Meetings, Conferences & Wedding Weekends

Ruthin Castle isn't only set up for weddings either. The venue also offers meeting rooms and conference rooms, making it suitable for a variety of events and larger gatherings.

For weddings, this flexibility can be useful when planning a full wedding weekend, particularly if you're bringing guests from outside North Wales.

With accommodation, dining, room service, afternoon tea, spa facilities and relaxation areas available, there are plenty of ways for guests to spend time at the castle before and after the main event.

For larger events, having an entire floor available can also provide useful flexibility depending on the requirements of your booking.

Why I Like Ruthin Castle

I like Ruthin Castle because it gives me lots to work with as a photographer while allowing couples to simply enjoy themselves.

There are historic rooms, beautiful grounds, woodland, views across the town of Ruthin, dramatic architecture and plenty of spaces for those quieter moments together.

My approach is always relaxed and candid. I don’t want your wedding photographs to feel like you've spent the whole day posing for a camera.

I want you to enjoy your wedding, spend time with your family and friends, have a drink, laugh, dance and enjoy the experience.

Then, when we do take a few minutes for your couple photographs, we can explore the castle grounds together and make use of everything Ruthin Castle has to offer.

That combination of a beautiful historic venue, the surrounding North Wales countryside, accommodation and the spa makes Ruthin Castle a really interesting choice for couples looking for something a little traditional.

And, of course, if you like the look of my photography, have a look through my galleries. If my relaxed and natural approach feels like something you'd like for your wedding, I'd love to hear from you.
